I am having using c++-mode.el with demacs. When I try compiling with:
demacs -batch -f batch-byte-compile cpp-mode.el

I get the error:
Error processing cpp-mode.el: Invalid read syntax ((")"))

Can any one help me or suggest what is wrong?

I have version 2.2 from 1992/04/24 of c++-mode.el and
version 1.2.0 of 1991.12.12 of deamcs.
