About TGZ Download Files

Files that end in .tgz are the equivalent of unix .tar.gz files. I called them .tgz for two reasons: First, it's more compatible with DOS systems, and second, it lets my web server treat them differently than .tar.gz files (which normally aren't downloadable).

These bundles contain files that may exceed the DOS 8.3 file name limits. Users of Windows 95/98/NT should use utilities that support long file names so as to properly preserve the file names.

To unpack these files with DJGPP, use djtarx.

To unpack these files under unix, you'll need gunzip and tar.

Cygwin32 users should use gunzip and tar also.

Contents of files
Type
Contents
html All the .html files that are used to build these web pages. They include SSI commands for headers and trailers, which means you won't see my usual banners and footers if you view them locally.
texi All the texinfo files, man files, text files, etc that were used to build the HTML. These all come from the original distributions from the FSF.
dvi The DVI files produced from the texinfo sources using texi2dvi. These can be used to produce other formats, like printer-ready files, postscript, etc.
ps The output of dvips from the DVI files, suitable for sending directly to any Postscript printer.
ps2up Also postscript, but produced directly from the texinfo sources using djgpp's texi2ps program. These are set in an 8pt font, two columns per page, resulting in 1/2 to 1/3 the number of pages of the dvi version, but less readable.
